This is the capability that i have chosen to work with in my reseach topic. I want to work on my personl developement in this area because it is something that i want to know and learn about due to me having been brought up with a family that have fostered many children and my family having two small foster children living with us now, they are both GOM 18 i want to find more out about this to.
Week one - term 2
In week one of research project we were told to decide on the topic that we wanted to research and work on for this semester/subject. A few different ideas ran through my mind, things such as ' Death on roads in Australia, what is it caused most by?', another one was for me to make a dress to wear in summer, i started on this but when i started to write the draft proposal i got stuck and didn't know what to do. So i decided to think of another topic to work on, i was watching my little brother and sister and thinking about what fostercare in Australia is like for all the children and families, so i decided to answer the question, 'What is foster care, and why do we need it?' foster care is my chosen topic to work on in this semester.
Week two - term 2
In week two of research project, we had to hand up our draft proposals that we completed over the weekend. I started on my research and i got some sheets from my mum that had different names of fostecare places and another sheet with the names of books about foster care that iam going to go and find in the state library during the holidays. I went onto the Anglicare website and got the ministers statement about foster care to use in my research folio.
To work on my research project in the holidays, i am going to go to the state library and look at the books there about foster care, foster children and foster homes i will take notes for all the main and interesting facts that i come across, and will reference all the books that i read. I already have a list of about twelve books that i can look for to use for research and take notes from. My little brother is having a meeting during the holidays with his social worker so i can ask her some questions and ask if i could come in to FamiliesSA and talk to some other social workers therer. When i go to the state library, there is also a FamiliesSA in town that i can go to and collect some broshures from. I will look on the internet at FamiliesSA, Anglicare, Life without barriers websites and all the other ones i can find. If i have time i should be able to write up some questions for the survey/interview, i will send them to you to see if they are appropriate or if i need to use the consent form. Then i can start getting people to fill them out for me.
During this week all i did was look around google for websites about foster care that i can use for my research. I also completed my preliminary summary of the different web resources that i am going to be using. I went onto google and looked up a list of books that i should be able to find at the state library and charles sturt civic library to get notes for my research. I read through the Messenger to see if i could find anything about Fostercare, i found an information course that i will be able to attend i will take down notes and maybe ask some questions to the host and see if i can get any broshures from them.
Week two - term three
In week two i didn't really do much stuff, besides researching on my topic. I wrote out 'WHAT' i already knew about fostercare and i also wrote about 'WHY' do we need it here in Australia. I found some more websites that i can use to get some information from. Im planning on going to the state library some time soon. If i can get 'Foster Child' the movie i will be able to write down some notes about what it was like then.
Last week i didn't do much work, besides going on to different websites and getting information. I got some statistics about how many children are in foster care and what happens to them to be put into care, with these i also got some graphs.
Week four - term three
This week i wrote out 'what, why and who' question that i need to answer to get my main answer to my question. I printed all the information that i have so far and my draft survey. I went through and high lighted all the key facts in the information that i could find. I found some more information and printed it off.
Week five - term three
On Monday i went throught my information, higlighted a bit more and wrote down some key points. I sent an email to my brothers social worker asking her to send me some pamphlets that shes has at her office at Families SA so i should get that soon, i can use this with my finished work as an example.
Week six - term three
This week i hardly did anything just printed off my last bits of information, sorted it out into groups of who, what and why, highlighted a couple of key points and started writing it out.
Week seven - term three
This week i did my outcome plan and i started putting my work together for the ten pages we have to hand up. I did my outcome plan, set it all out to know what information goes where.
Week eight - term three
I got a reponse from the social worker i contacted, she sent me a DVD on kinship/relative care and some brochures. I re-wrote my introduction so it'd make more sense and i like it the way it is now.
Week nine - term three
This week, i referneced all the websites that i used to get my information from on the Harvard generator. Printed off some final information that i found online, that will be very useful to help answer my foster care questions. I have almost completed all of my outcome, i have done the introduction and fully answered one of my questions 'what is foster care?' and only have some brief answers on my other questions, i will finish the rest of the outcome over the weekend it shouldn't take me very long to do.
Week ten - term three
I didn't have time to finish all of my outcome over the weekend, so during the week sometime i just have to finish off the conclusion and the last bit then im done. After i can start on my ten pages, i have the first one completed so just got to figure out what i am going to have on the other nine.

Preliminary summary of web resources
Week one - term three
